
ROXANNE YOUNG
Dancer
Roxanne Young, a native of Denver, CO, trained at her mother's studio, Expressions of Dance and Arts Academy and the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance School. She attended the Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas, TX from 2003-2006 where she was a member of the Advance Repertory Dance Company. In 2006, she was a Finalist for the National Foundation for the Advancement in the Arts in Modern Dance, now YoungArts. After high school she continued her studies at the University of Utah, joining the Department of Modern Dance from 2006-2009. During her junior year, she had the privilege of performing with the world-renowned vocalist Bobby McFerrin at Kingsbury Hall in the spring of 2009. Roxanne joined the Dallas Black Dance Theatre II in 2010 and in 2011 joined the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble as a member of the second company and was promoted to the first company and continued for 3 more seasons. After being an apprentice for 5 months, Roxanne joined Elisa Monte Dance, under the direction of Tiffany Rea-Fisher in 2016 for one season. During her time with EMD, she became a backup dancer for Janelle Kroll’s music video “Barricade” in 2017. Taking on the path of freelancing, Roxanne has worked with a variety of artists including Nathan Trice/RITUALS, Alpha Omega Theatrical Dance Company, Heidi Latsky Dance, Yara Travieso, Gesel Mason Performance Projects, AThomasProject, Clymove Dance, Emotions Physical Theatre, Bloodline Dance Theater, and Nu-World Contemporary Danse Theater. On November 11th, 2024, she joined Bobby McFerrin & Motion on stage for an improv jam performance at the Freight and Salvage Coffeehouse in Berkeley, CA.
In addition to performing, Roxanne enjoys teaching creative dance, ballet, modern dance, and jazz to students from the ages of 5 to adults. She has had the privilege of teaching in institutions such as the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Academy, Purelements, Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, National Enrichment Group, Marcia Brooks/Various Works, Peridance Studio, Brooklyn United and was a Horton Technique Assistant to Milton Myers at The Ailey School and Steps on Broadway.
Roxanne had the honor of showcasing her choreography on the students of Montclair High School in 2018 and created her revised solo “Finding My Way”, which was performed at the Alpha Omega Studio for the Studio to Stage showcase in 2022. Her new solo “bond/unbound/the undoing movement I” premiered for the Artists of Color Council Night Performance at the Judson Memorial Church on December 2nd, 2024 and her latest premiere, a duet called “Amidst the Cover of Night” was performed for the Alpha Omega Studio to Stage showcase December 6-8th, 2024.
Roxanne is the proud owner and founder of KarmaInMotion88 L.L.C., a massage practice that came into existence in October 2021. This is her third season with CLYMOVE.
