MEET SOPHIA
Sophia Diehl holds a degree in Dance and Religion from St. Olaf College and a certificate in Contemporary Dance from Gibney Dance’s Professional Training Program. She is a company member with CLYMOVE and Valerie Green / Dance Entropy and has also performed with NYC-based companies Threads of Truth, Chris Ferris & Dancers, and Ballaro Dance. Through a grant from the Utah Arts Council, Sophia choreographed and produced two site-specific dance films in 2020 and premiered them at the Salt Lake City Public Library to generate dialogue around place-based dance. She has created new work as an Artist Resident at Bearnstow in Maine (2018) and as a selected artist for the Take Root program at Green Space in Queens (2023). For four years, Sophia worked as both Company Manager and Company Artist for Stuart Pimsler Dance & Theater, partnering on the implementation of nationwide Arts in Health initiatives. The most formative project of her tenure was I Believe / The South Dakota Prison Project, supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, which engaged incarcerated individuals in a three-week arts program. Such projects have nourished her passion for making dance an accessible modality for healing and community-building. In addition to performing, she is a Teaching Artist with Heidi Latsky Dance and New Jersey Performing Arts Center. This is Sophia’s second season with Clymove.
